Global responsibility.

JMF is proud of its reputation as one of the UK’s leading signage, print, and design agencies. And, as an industry leader, we’re striving to set a precedent for responsible business practices that safeguard the environment.

At the heart of our operation lies a steadfast commitment to sustainability. From the conscientious consideration we give to the materials we use, to the transportation and installation of our products — we are resolute in our pursuit of ecological preservation and making substantial investments in sustainable technologies to curtail our environmental footprint and reduce our dependence on non-renewable sources of energy.

Our comprehensive environmental strategy emphasises a reduction of carbon emissions both on-site and off, with ongoing optimisation of our logistical processes throughout the organisation. To this end, we have established a zero-carbon emissions target and are making persistent progress towards achieving this objective.

Keep reading to learn more about the steps we’ve already taken to address some major environmental issues, as well as how we intend to set a new industry standard for sustainability.

In 2020, JMF was awarded a grant from the Business Energy Saving Team. This grant allowed us to invest in an air-to-heat pump — a low-carbon air source that produces up to four times the energy of a standard electric heater.

This state-of-the-art production technology has led to a significant reduction in the greenhouse gases we generate, amounting to an annual saving of 7.2 tonnes of CO2. As a result, we’re proud to say that two of our four Swalwell-based manufacturing units now operate with net zero emissions.

Recycled paper and sustainable
printing methods.

At the core of our sustainability pledge is the responsible management of our digital printing processes. We hold an unwavering stance against unsustainable printing methods and now opt for the use of recycled material across our entire line of printed products.

Alongside the increased use of renewable resources, we maintain an efficient waste disposal framework, recycling all off-cut paper products and old signage. Our meticulous approach ensures the removal, replacement, and subsequent recycling of all off-cuts produced on-site.

We also ensure the proper disposal of excess inks, oils, and manufacturing off-cuts — including metals and aluminium. This comprehensive approach aims to protect the world’s forests, minimise our environmental impact, and keep our print processes at the forefront of the eco-friendly movement.

Off-site environmental management.

In a bid to promote remote working, all non-office-based employees, including our installation team, are equipped with mobile devices such as iPhones and iPads. This approach enables our off-site staff to work productively while minimising transport emissions and reliance on fossil fuels.

For those employees who are on-site, we have installed electric car charging ports at two of our factories; a move in preparation for the delivery of our inaugural fleet of all-electric vehicles. Our concerted efforts in this regard reflect our commitment to sustainable transport and reducing our carbon footprint.

Moreover, we have made significant investments in a customised customer workflow software solution that allows clients to track their orders from start to finish, spanning production, delivery, installation, and billing. This comprehensive approach to order management ensures that our clients can monitor every aspect of their orders and reinforces our pledge to clarity, simplicity, and sustainability.

Sustainable print solutions.

The large-format print industry is notoriously wasteful — that’s why we’re constantly trialling fresh, innovative ways to become leaner and greener, cutting our energy costs, saving us money and reducing the carbon footprints of each JMF site.

Eco-friendly printers

minimise the impact on the environment without impacting print quality.

Vegetable-based inks

Reduce harmful VOCs (volatile organic compounds), providing eco-printing of the highest quality.

Recyclable materials

Sustainably sourced and produced using 28–70% less energy consumption than virgin paper.

Eco-development processes

Minimise unnecessary waste across the organisation.
