What Is an LED Lightbox?
In its simplest form, a lightbox (or light box) is a form of graphic signage with rear illumination supplied by light-emitting diodes (LEDs). This category of signage is most commonly used to display advertising and marketing messages, though it can also be effectively used for informational and wayfinding purposes.
Lightboxes can be found in all sorts of commercial settings, from small businesses and retail outlets to large corporations, airports, and hospitals. With their sturdy construction, lightbox frames can be errected at interior and exterior locations, allowing for impactful and versatile OOH marketing.
The Benefits of LED Lightbox Technology
There are many reasons the LED light box has become so popular in recent years. Take a look below for some of the most compelling reasons to consider investing in a unit:
One of the key advantages of LED light boxes is that they can be seen in all lighting conditions. LEDs supply illumination which is bright and consistent, meaning that your message will always be visible to potential customers, no matter the time of day—perfect for late-night trading!
Research indicates that 68% of customers believe that company signage is directly reflective of the quality of their product or service. Lightboxes are ideal for addressing this issue, as they offer a quick and easy way to create a sophisticated and professional aesthetic for your brand. With effective creative material, illumination displays can turn an impressed customer into an interested customer, one who is confident in your product and your great service.
Generally speaking, signs which utilise visual aids and a lot of colour are 43% more convincing than those which don’t. Compared to standard poster and billboard frames, lightbox displays offer significantly more options for creating compelling and credible marketing materials that result in genuine leads and product interest.
Unlike more traditional signage displays, when it comes time to change poster or artwork materials in a light box, only the poster itself needs to be replaced. This results in lower installation costs, lower print production costs, and less time spent with a blank wall.
LED lighting is an extremely eco-friendly form of illumination, making lightbox displays the ideal solution for companies looking to stay green. LEDs draw significantly less energy than the fluorescent bulbs found in old illumination displays, and they don’t contain any harmful toxins or chemicals.
The Types of LED Lightbox
Whilst the benefits of lightboxes speak for themselves, it’s important to select the right type of lightbox for the specific needs of your company. Light boxes are not created equal, and with extensive depth, width, height, and product options available, it’s essential to consider all the options.
Take a look below for a review of the most common forms of lightbox:
The most popular type of lightbox, wall-mounted lightboxes are perfect for advertisements, wayfinding, and general informational signage. These units can be mounted on both interior and exterior walls, meaning they can be used in a wide range of locations.
Freestanding lightboxes are supplied with their own stand, making them perfect for use in areas where wall-mounted units are not suitable. What’s more, with their quick and simple installation, they are ideal for temporary retail settings, trade shows, and exhibitions.
Featuring a display which extends to the edge of unit, frameless lightboxes have a sleek and modern look that is perfect for businesses who want to create a stylish and professional image. With wall-mounted and counter-top options available, these edge-less frames are ideal for high-end advertising and marketing, as well as POS and checkout displays.
Hanging lightboxes are perfect for businesses looking for ways to provide light, bright wayfinding details. A hanging lightbox product can be suspended from a ceiling or beam, making them highly visible and hard to miss.
Projecting lightboxes are often used for wayfinding purposes, as they can be mounted on walls and ceilings to project signs out into the open space. They’re also ideal for terraced business locations that have limited signage space, but who still want to be seen at street level.
What Goes In a LED Lightbox?
Whilst size and design are unquestionable important considerations before you place an order, it’s also essential to think about what substrates you ultimately want to illuminate.
At JMF, we stock three main forms of graphic displays for our light boxes:
This method is closest to traditional digital poster printing. Backlit posters are printed on a premium glossy polyester, with vibrant colours at 1400x1400dpi. Available in a wide range of size and finishing options, backlit poster pages offer simple creation, low minimum order quantities, and ultra-vibrant graphic and text display.
For more information, see our dedicated poster printing page.
For the ultimate in high-quality backlit display, duratrans offer the ideal solution. Unlike poster printing, duratran images are exposed photographically and developed chemically, with a silver halide process similar to that used in conventional lab photography. This results in a super-crisp, high-resolution image which is perfect for businesses who want to make a real impact with their signage.
For more information, see our dedicated duratrans printing page.
Tension fabric is a solution for businesses that want to create a seamless lightbox display. These images are printed onto fabric which is then stretched and mounted onto an aluminium frame. This results in wrinkle-free displays that really pop, and that can be used time and again.
